Jade Turtle Cufflinks

These jade turtles were a fun, and quite unususal project. They came to me in the form of cufflinks originally but the structure of them was not secure; they were simply held together by glue.

I started by removing the turtles from their original settings using a very small amount of heat to soften the glue. Jade is a gorgeous stone but it doesn't take kindly to heat and will crack if exposed too much. Once the glue was softened, I was able to start work on the new settings. Here is a quick summary of the process involved.

This was a great project for me. Turns out I really enjoy making unusual settings.
Here's a picture of the finished cufflinks.
